Nickel Interest at Highest Since 2005 as Factories Boost Output


“It is quite possible that the stainless steel mills are rushing into buy nickel now on the expectation that nickel prices are going to rise,” said David Wilson, an analyst at Societe Generale SA in London. “Everybody is expecting higher prices” next year, he said.

I saw that molybdenum put in a bottom at $8.00 per pound. It is at $11.50 now. Copper prices are recovering as well. I don't know if this is just a temporary spike.

Emerging markets will require lots of stainless steel, so I feel pretty good about hi-grade nickel and moly projects. Especially near surface deposits.

Mining industry has turned back up – Ernst & Young

JOAHNNESBURG (miningweekly) – The mining industry turnaround was already under way and metal prices were back on the ascendancy, Ernst & Young global mining director Dr Tim Williams said on Friday.

London-based Williams told journalists in Johannesburg that he could not say whether the turnaround would be sustainable.

“The outlook has changed beyond all recognition since March,” he said.

Maybe China will be like the Soviet Union of the 30's. With 1.3 billion people commodity demand should be heavy and steady.
